My Reiki Journey
I first became aware of the importance of energy flow when I was living in Hong Kong as a child. My Reiki story started in a small way in 1996 when I began an adult education teaching course. A fellow student invited me to lunch at her home and in between teaching me to dowse and the dessert, she told me I should be working with energy. I had been putting my hands on people and animals and feeling heat when my hands reached ‘the right spot’ since childhood, but I had no idea how to work with energy. It just seemed a natural thing to do.
I had become increasingly aware of earth energy and the effects of geopathic stress and when we moved home a couple of years later, a Feng Shui consultant had made various suggestions to aid the flow of chi. Six years after her visit, I just happened to be browsing the internet and came across a small green jade three legged toad (an auspicious symbol of good fortune). I felt compelled to buy the toad and after a ten day wait for the auction to end and a flurry of bidding, the toad was mine. It arrived a few days later and turned out to be tiny! I felt I’d paid rather too much for such a small thing. The accompanying leaflet said that the little toad had been ‘charged with Reiki’. Intrigued, I emailed the seller to find out more and she kindly replied, encouraging me to look into Reiki. Three weeks later I was sitting on a train alongside my husband as we travelled north to attend our First Degree Reiki course. We felt that at the very least we would have a pleasant weekend away together.
