Professional Practice for Reiki Practitioners
This two day course currently being developed will cover the criteria set out in the National Occupational Standards for professional practice. The course fee is likely to be £100. I am proposing to teach the first course in 2010.
Professional Practice for Reiki Practitioners
This course will prepare you for running your own practice in a professional manner. Specialist topics such as accounting or marketing are only briefly touched on, though I can advise on suitable books.
The criteria laid down in the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Reiki have been developed by Skills for Health. While this is particularly important for practitioners who would like to work within the NHS or at a hospice, it is also good practice for everyone else. It will also essential for anyone looking to become a Registered Reiki Practitioner under the voluntary regulation scheme. For people who have no experience of a therapy or clinical environment, the course will be particularly helpful.
The topics covered include:
- Evaluating requests for Reiki
- Assessing your client
- Planing Reiki sessions
- The Reiki session
- Evaluating the effectiveness of Reiki
- A safe working environment (please note this course does not cover first aid course or manual handling).
- Working for home, therapy centre, hospital or hospice.
- Interpersonal skills, including equality and diversity.
- Enabling your client to practice self-treatment and evaluating the effectiveness and use of self-treatment.
- Practice management - including keeping your accounts and tax self-assessment.
- Promoting your practice.
- Portfolios and CPD - a brief introduction.
Further details on voluntary regulation are available from the General Regulatory Council for Complementary Therapy.
The National Occupational Standards for Reiki can be downloaded from The Reiki Council who are the lead advisory body for Reiki.
If you would like to take up voluntary registration you will also need to become a member of a Reiki association. I recommend joining the UK Reiki Federation who also offer competitive professional liability insurance.
To meet the NOS requirements you will also need a basic anatomy & physiology course such as the course found here at Essential Training and a 1 day basic first aid course such as this run by St. John Ambulance or the British Red Cross.
