What happens during a Reiki treatment? Usually you will lie down, though treatments can be given with you sitting in a chair. I have a top of the range therapy couch with thick padding and an adjustable back rest. A knee roll is available for your comfort. You will be offered a blanket, and then all you have to do is lie there! It is usually to close your eyes, but this is not essential. Some people fall asleep (this is often the case with men), but generally, you will feel deeply relaxed, aware of what is happening, but not fully awake.
What do you do to me? I place my hands either on your body or just above you. I act as a channel for the energy, it is up to your body how it uses it! Reiki is always given with the intention that it is for the highest good.
Will I notice anything? This varies from person to person, but you may feel:
- Warmth
- Tingling
- Heaviness
- A cool breeze
- You may see colours
- Nothing at all! Don't worry, this doesn't mean that nothing is happening!
- Some people see colours, usually purples and blues, when they shut their eyes.
Do I have to take my clothes off? No, you will remain fully clothed throughout the treatment, though you will be asked to take off your coat and shoes.
Do I have a choice of music: Yes, you do. During a treatment it is nice to have relaxing music playing softly in the background. You may wish to bring your own favorite with you, as long as it is something peaceful. Heavy rock or the 1812 overture are best avoided!

When are appointments available? Usually in the afternoons from 15.00 until 18.00. Appointments outside these times can sometimes be arranged.
How long is a treatment? The treatment takes about an hour, though you need to allow at least an extra 15 minutes on top of this. Shorter sessions may be arranged if you are limited to a lunch hour. The first appointment includes a consultation and you should allow around an hour and three quarters. It is not a good idea to try and fit a treatment into a very tight time frame.
How many sessions will I need? Usually around four or five sessions, though this will depend on many factors, including the reason you are seeking Reiki - long standing problems normally take longer. Your body will only take the energy that it needs, so no two sessions will be alike. You cannot 'overdose' on Reiki - it is self-regulating. Many people just have the occasional session to relax and de-stress.
How much does a treatment cost? The standard treatment fee is £25. If you can genuinely not afford my fees please talk to me. Mikao Usui the founder of Reiki felt that Reiki should be available to everyone. I follow Usui's view, so it may be possible to come to some other arrangement. Distance healing is also available and this is free of charge.
How can I pay? Payment for sessions can be made by cash, cheque or by most debit or credit cards (not American Express or Diners cards).
How do I book an appointment? You can telephone 01983 753723 anytime between 10.00 am and 21.00. You may on occasions be asked to leave a message - I will return your call as quickly as possible. Alternatively, appointments can be requested by e-mail Please give a range of dates and times and I will try to meet your requirements. During the week I aim to answer all e-mails within five hours, usually it is much quicker. For courses please see the booking page in the Course section.
What about parking & buses? Parking is plentiful. We are less than a three minute walk from the nearest bus stop - numbers 7 & 11.
How do I find you? I will e-mail or send you directions, or see the Google map on the Contact page.
What about after the treatment? After your treatment you will be offered a glass of water. It is a good idea to avoid alcohol that day and to drink plenty of water over the next few days. Some people may experience a release, this can take several forms, but possible reactions might be feeling a little emotional for two or three days, a slight Reiki cold for a couple of days, or even visiting the toilet more frequently! The clear out effects are short lived and normally only apply to the first session. They are more likely to happen after a course than a treatment and many people only experience positive effects. Don’t let a possible release put you off, it may not happen to you. In the event that you do have a small reaction, please let me know and I will send you distance Reiki to help the release pass.

Can I combine Reiki and EmoTrance or EFT in one session? Yes, I prefer to work in an integrated way and may suggest teaching you the basics of EmoTrance or EFT as a self-treatment method between sessions so you can be empowered to have some control over your issues. There is no additional charge for this.
Will you make a diagnosis? No, Reiki practitioners do not make a diagnosis, the beauty of Reiki is it's simplicity, we channel the energy to you and your body uses it where it is needed. We can 'adjust' the energy according to your physical or emotional needs, but any treatment we give is complimentary to that given to you by your doctor.
What about Confidentiality? I maintain strict client confidentiality. I will NOT contact your employer, family or your doctor (except in an emergency). I am happy to show you your treatment record at anytime. Your e-mail address and telephone number will not be given to any third party. You can be assured that any thing you say in my therapy room will not be overheard and session timings are generous so that the next client will not be waiting outside.
Do you abide by a code of ethics? Yes, I abide by the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct of the UK Reiki Federation I can give you a copy on request.
